Teaching Tennis to kids Age (8-11) and (12-14)?

Any tips on what drills to do, or games i can play with them i am a high school student and this is my first time teaching tennis lessons.

ANY specific games for the younger kids other than the ones listed

for the 12-14 year olds make them run and do this for the week or how long you have them

ball toss: stand next to a high fence most likely the one around your court toss the ball up 700 (can be lower) times and each time it hits the fence start over must be 8ft high toss. when you can do this you will never miss throw. take one of their racquets and position the butt end against their front shoe and then toss and allow the ball to drop. It should bounce off the strings. If this is unclear or not sure where to set the racquet down on court without a diagram then next best thing is toss ball up 3 feet from end of tossing hand since racquet length, leg & arm extension upon point of impact should be around 3 feet above tossing hand at completion of toss. And allow ball to drop into hand. This gets them to learn to toss the ball and not flick it using the wrist

ground strokes:hit the ball at a wall slow and close 25 times then back up a little and do it 25 times more and get back more and more and repeat.

volleys full and half: have a friend hit balls to you while you stand at the T of the court and have the friend move the shots

Overheads: have a friend lob the ball to you and you must hit the overhead before the shot hits a ground. then put a cone somewhere on a court and aim for it using an overhead move cone around and work on getting more power

Lobs: lob to a friend who will overhead to you and you lob the ball back and they overheads and so on.

special shots: (drops approach): hit an approach shot to a friend who weakly returns it and then you drop shot him and start over.

Serve: put a cone in the serve box and aim for it move the cone then add power

Footwork: run from side to side up and down maybe 50 times then take a rest and have your team or a friend hit balls to you that you have to run to and get back into a place were they tell you to

games: around the world, rip your face off, mini tennis

8-11 just have them hit forehands and backhands

Dads Guide To The Ages Of Kids For Starting Sports

A lot of the fun of being a dad is helping kids discover their passions, and that starts with sharing what turns you on. If you love to play golf, you’ll hope that you and your child will one day be walking the links together. For others, it’s basketball or baseball. Here’s a quick look at when many kids are ready to experiment with different sports:

Swimming
Since babies swim in the womb, this is the most natural sport they can do. And, it’s one you can do with them. Many baby swim classes exist. Check out your local Y, around one year old. Aggressive swim coaches will suggest that all kids can learn to swim; be aware that kids learn on their own schedule and that some can’t actually swim until around five, no matter how many lessons you force on them. Swimming is a basic life skill though, and one all dads should help their kids learn.

Downsides: Poop in pool (never let your kid in the pool without swim diapers), long prep time with showers and locker rooms.

Football
Fast and furious, this is a good game for active energized kids, beginning around five. Don’t allow anything other than flag football until around eight though.

Downside: Depending on how protective you are, it may create safety concerns.

Tennis
While little kids can bat the ball around, watch for the kind of hand/eye coordination need to develop around eight years old.

Downside: While tennis elbow may not be the greatest danger, watch out for flying racquets.

Soccer
The love of parents everywhere since kids can run and kick very early on. Some classes start at four, but wait until five if you want to see kids learn to play as a team.

Downside: Do you really want to become a “soccer mom?”

Baseball
The great American pastime is also hard to learn until the kindergarten years, though T-Ball can be fun for pre-schoolers around four.

Downsides: Seen as very slow and boring, and often requires a major time commitment for parents as well.

Gymnastics
Start on gymnastics as early as three. Kids at this age show no fear and can learn things older ones just won’t try.

Downside: Strenuous and requires good coaching to prevent injuries.

Basketball
You can try basketball earlier, but little kids may find dribbling and especially, shooting frustrating until age six. Basketball is a great game for cardiovascular exercise throughout life.

Downside: Kids who are not as tall or fast may feel left out of the game.

There’s nothing 6 year olds or older kids Camping with dadlove more than being in the outdoors. You can use camping with kids to teach idependence and self-sufficiency.

Is there still hope on becoming a pro tennis player, at least in the top 60?

Im 5’6 and im slim built and athletic, but Im 22 years old (is that too old) I use to play as a kid, but never took any serious lessons. I still have no serve really. But over all I think Im about a 4-5 out of 10 ( or a 2.5-3.0 in tennis) I’m really into tennis right now and have been practicing everyday. I’m hoping to finaly get my USTA membership and take some lessons at a college, but I have no serious money for serious lessons and serious equipment (Im useing my Babolat Pure Power 360/ zylon360 right now, not too bad) Tennis is all I got left, and all I care about right now, so I wonder, do I still have a shot???

You have only one chance and that would be to enroll in a tennis academy and practice 8-10 hours a day and that would cost serious money. Also you would be extremely short for a tennis player. Most pro tennis players are 6 foot and up. There is no way you could make the top 60. What I’m telling you to do might get you in the top 500 in 10 years and then you would be to old to play. I hope I didn’t shoot your dreams, but you would have a better chance winning the lottery twice.
