breakdown in a tennis match?
This is my problem, my friend and I always play a best of 3 set matches ( 5 set matches ). At the beginning of the match, I am playing almost perfect, less errors, more winners, no double faults, and a couple of aces. I won the first set 6-0. Now here comes the hard part, when the second set started, I seem to loose everything. I started hitting many ugly errors, and i am double faulting 3 times in just 1 game! And it was really frustrating, because my opponent is a counterpuncher and I am a aggressive baseliner. He really gets a lot of balls back. But yesterday, I was lucky, I won that set 6-4. And when the 3rd set started, I was playing perfect again. Crazy isn’t it? So how can I avoid this breakdown in matches?
Ahhh I do the same thing. Especially when you win the first set easily you tend to relax or coast. I usually try more experimenting and lower percentage shots. I often try new or less orthodox shots.
It’s naturally to have a let down when ahead
Instead at the beginning of the second set, imagine you are behind or losing. Stay focused like you need to win every point. Don’t get lazy, keep your feet moving and stay in position. Play high percentage shots and just keep up your intensity…

What’s the most memorable tennis match you’ve ever seen?
For me, one match has stayed in the memory whilst other games, great at the time, have faded. The match I remember most was the 4th Round match at Wimbledon in 1987 between Jimmy Connors and Mikael Pernfors. Although my mother packed me off to have a bath before I could see the final set, and I had to rely on score updates as Connors completed his remarkable comeback!
Connors lost the first two sets, and was trailing 4-1 in the third, seemingly dead and buried, against an opponent a decade younger than him (I still recall the energy that Pernfors bounced up on down on the baseline with as he waited for Connors to serve). The light was going, Connors had a leg injury, but he summoned up his old powers to eventually triumph.
