Lots of Phases- How do I know what I really like?
Basically, I go through a ton of different ‘phases.’ They are in many different categories. There are the career ones, where I jump back and forth between what I want to be, but then there are the ones that realy botther me. The activities one.
I started guitar, and was wicked excited about it and loved it, up until I discovered belly dancing. I kept guitar, but now belly dancing was my passion. I was ‘obsessed’. I would find fan sites and forums and dance dance dance. Then I found karate and now belly dancing isn’t that cool anymore. Karate is. How do I find out what I really like and what I just like in a ‘phase?” I’d really like to stick with something. I’ve done so many different activities:
learning lots of languages (french, spanish, hebrew, hungarian, etc)
sports such as softball, tennis, lacross, basketball, iceskating
other things like tapdance, and so forth. I think you get the picture.
So basically… help?
At first read, seems an exciting way to live. A great carousel ride. I’ve no idea how old you are, & dependng–don’t see how they could “harm” you, but would enrich you. Yet, in my personal experience, while everything I did, I did successfully & enjoyed, I was far too fragmented. I juggled three professions at once. They ALL began to lose their “glitter.” I now don’t think there’s anything like finding your true passion. I’ve only recently discarded things in which I invested too much time, & spread myself too thin. You seem to go from one to another, but mine overlapped, & perhaps that’s why I realized I hadn’t found harmony. Long ago, I read something in THE FIRST CIRCLE–if I can only remember it. It caught my attention, but I wasn’t ready. Yes! “Once a single, great passion occupies one, it displaces everything else–there is no room in us for two passions.” I don’t agree that there isn’t room for more than one passion, but–”A single great passion…” that is something else. I think that there is excitement, serenity & stability in finding one’s passion. I believe that through deep & truthful introspection, you can find yours.
